An extraordinary first edition example of Edward Mogg's important 1806 case map of London, England. Covers the central part of London from Kensington to Greenwich and the East India Docks. Of this stunning map, Mogg writes ...like the clue of Ariadne, [it] will conduct him through the labyrinth, and, occasionally consulted, will enable him, unattended, to thread with ease the mazes of this vast metropolis Mogg's map of London offers extraordinary and beautifully engraved detail throughout noting all streets, parks, and numerous important buildings. Illustrates a relatively primitive state of development on the south shore of the Thames. The downtown area consumed by the London fire of 1666 is highlighted in red. Mogg's intention in this map is to highlight various city works and urban renewal projects which were being perused in the early 19th century.
